The artwork is an articulation of movement and balance. It references an athlete in movement and visually describes the many kinematic relationships present while performing any physical activity.
Equilibrium is a tangible rendition of the language of kinematics. The physical components of the work reference velocity, direction, time, vector and distance in a playful balance of form.
Conceptually, Equilibrium extends beyond a physical description of movement in space. It functions as a metaphor for community by referencing the notions of relationship, balance and connection. It also describes the many dynamic relationships between individuals, people and place, families, groups, and articulates the cultural diversity within a community.
The selection of contemporary materials and the formal nature of the artwork reflect the highly contemporary site both in its design and function, while addressing the surrounding landscape by way of contrast.
